Keep the wound area clean with prescribed medication. Regularly perform muscle and motor strengthening exercises to keep your limbs agile. In case, the wound emits foul smell immediately seek your doctor.
If your neglected burn is mild, it can be treated at home and would heal within a few days. If it’s deep it would require immediate medical care.
If the neglected burn becomes foul smelling or painful, the dressing is soaked with fluid leaking from the wound, the wound hasn’t healed after 2 weeks, and/or you have developed a fever – all these situations require immediate medical attention.
Neglected burns must be protected against debris and pressure; hence the wound area must always be covered with sterile gauze and prescribed ointments. Never use OTC medication, oil, lotion, butter, cortisone, or egg white; else the wound will get easily infected and lead to complications.
